Jared Pool is a multi-instrumentalist from Richmond, VA who currently plays mandolin with legendary flatpicker, Larry Keel and teaches locally. From an early age, Jared grew up immersed in traditional American music through attending various fiddler’s conventions and festivals while also studying blues/rock guitar and later earning a degree in jazz studies from Christopher Newport University. Jared has worked with the Virginia Folklife Program for several years on recordings for the Sherman Holmes Project and The Ingramettes and also as a “musical ambassador” alongside Danny Knicely and Aimee Curl for a cultural exchange in Cabo Verde, Africa in 2017.
Jared’s teaching style is customized to fit the goals/needs of students. Songs/exercises/assignments will be communicated via notation/tablature with supplemental audio/video demonstrations at the request of the student. Concepts such as technique, tone, improvisation and music theory will be interwoven into each lesson.
