I'm a musician and multi instrumentalist living in New Orleans that teaches old time music and blues as a full time job. I love the music of Virginia and love to play regional styles from Galax, and it's musical cousin, Mt. Airy NC.
I teach using oral history methods, by helping people develop their sense of rhythm and style. This also means I don't use tabs or written music, but teach everything by ear and by eye. I love to send students old time music that i'm excited about and talk people through the elements of the genre. My goal for beginning students is to teach the meaning and beauty of practice so they can get jamming with other folks as soon as possible, with more advanced students it's to get people past the dreaded plateau of intermediate playing by returning to the fundamentals of rhythm and by sharing the secrets of style!
