TRAIN connects artists, craftspeople, and tradition bearers with students for online instruction opportunities. TRAIN was created in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic which has had a devastating impact on the livelihoods of artists across diverse communities and creative genres. Along with the cancelation of performance opportunities, many teaching artists have had to cancel their lessons due to the pandemic.
TRAIN has been created to support and advocate for artists and to amplify opportunities for the remote teaching and learning of the rich and critically important arts and traditions that enrich the American landscape.
Whether you are experienced at providing online lessons or trying it for the first time in response to current events, the TRAIN directory is available as a free resource to help connect you with potential online students. TRAIN is a free service offered by the Virginia Folklife Program at Virginia Humanities, which receives no proceeds from your instruction. Our mission is to connect artists directly with students, and all instructional arrangements and financial agreements are made exclusively between you and your students. The Virginia Folklife Program does not assume responsibility or liability for these arrangements.
We are doing all we can to spread the word of this resource, and appreciate it if you would share this with others on social media and other channels. Let’s get work to as many folks as we can!
