Join Virginia Folklife at the Reston Multicultural Festival!
Virginia Folklife Apprenticeship artists Nelly and Paloma Zapata will perform with their Fairfax-based dance group Fundacion Socio Cultural Diablada Boliviana. Northern Virginia is home to the largest Bolivian population in the United States and dance is essential to Bolivian cultural expression. The Diablada dance this group is named for is centuries old, with elaborate and intricate costumes made by artisans in Bolivia. Following their performance, learn more from Nelly and Paloma through a moderated conversation discussing the roots and signifigance of Bolivian dance traditions.
Additional Virginia Folklife Apprenticeship artists will be honored at through ongoing short documentary film screenings at Reston’s LOOK Dine-In Cinema on festival grounds. This free annual event is a celebration of Reston’s diversity and community spirit and is presented by the Reston Community Center in partnership with the Reston Town Center Association. The Reston Multicultural Festival is cohosted by BXP and volunteer coordination is provided by Reston Association.

- 5:35-6PM | Ganna Natsag, display and discussion about Mongolian mask making (Library Street Stage)
Jim Lloyd, musician, storyteller, Junior Appalachian Musician instructor and barber from Rural Retreat, VA, will also be performing on the Library Street Stage at 1:20-2:05PM. See you in Reston!
