Zerui Depina is a celebrated singer and musician from Cape Verde, an island nation off the coast of West Africa. Zerui forged a musical relationship with Danny Knicely while Danny was on a tour of the islands sponsored by the U.S. State Department and the Virginia Folklife Program, a program of Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. Joined by Aimee Curl on bass, the three will give a rare concert featuring the classic Cape Verdean music styles of Morna, Funana, and other instrumental music mixed with songs and tunes from the mountains of Virginia.
