About Me
Hi! I decided to become a teacher after giving all by baby dolls a bath, dressing them and teaching them all to read at the age of nine. I found the violin a year later and knew that was what I wanted to play and teach. I got my music ed k-12 degree from Appalachian State University because it had a reputation as a good school to go to become a teacher. We got married two days before I did my student teaching and I started teaching private lessons at private schools with my daughter, born on our first anniversary, in tow, followed by public schools for seven years. In 2000, I started teaching in private schools of music and have been having a great time in them ever since! I love my students. Teaching music is The Best Job. Playing music is exhilerating. I never want to stop doing this!
Teaching Style
My students begin with Essential Elements for Strings and Faber piano books. String students go from there to the technique of Suzuki books. Once they have a good grip on their instruments, I like all my students to enjoy going in the musical direction that they have longed to go in: Disney, fiddle, classical, hymns, worship music, improv - whatever they want to do! We discuss music theory along the way, figuring out the mysteries of their music. It's heaven.
