About Me
I grew up in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and started learning tunes of Virginia and West Virginia starting in the late 60s. I spent summers traveling to regional music festivals and learning as much as I could from older fiddlers including Melvin Wine, Ernie Carpenter, Burl Hammons, Joe Birchfield, Franklin George, Tommy Jarrell, Wilson Douglas, and others including Harold Hausenfluck. I retired form competition and judging after winning the Clifftop competition in 2001. I am most happy playing for dances when rhythm is most important.
Teaching Style
I am offering on line videos of various tunes with detailed bowing instruction as well as videos of tune versions as played by the older fiddlers. I post new tunes periodically by popular demand to my Youtube channel.
