scottstreetThe Virginia Folklife Program has partnered with JAMinc to honor the memory of distinguished Richmond attorney and dedicated banjo player Scott Street, who passed away in February of this year to cancer. We are announcing the first Scott Street Five String Finals for young bluegrass banjo players living in Virginia. After a preliminary round of YouTube video entries, four finalists will be selected by an expert panel led by five-time IBMA banjo player of the year and Steve Martin prize winner Sammy Shelor. Those talented four will compete live on the Virginia Folklife Stage at the Richmond Folk Festival on Sunday, October 11 at 3:15pm. First prize is a new Huber Workhorse banjo, a personal mentorship with Sammy Shelor made possible by the Virginia Folklife Program, and other valuable considerations still being assembled.
