We at the Virginia Folklife Program would like to send our best wishes to Barry Bergey in his retirement from his post as Director of the Division of Folk and Traditional Arts at the National Endowment for the Arts. We are deeply grateful to Barry for his years of tireless work on behalf of traditional artists across the nation, and for his unrelenting support for state folklife programs such as ours. We simply can’t do what we do without the support of the NEA, and for years we benefited from having a soldier like Barry in the trenches. We wish Barry a happy retirement, filled with blissful days of bird watching, writing, laughter, and joy.
