Stewarts Canal is significant because Harriet Tubman and her father Ben Ross helped along with other slaves dig Stewarts Canal. Besides the beauty of the area, Dorchester County has many stops on the Underground Railroad including the Bucktown Village Store, in Bucktown, MD. The store has been in Jay Meredith's family since the mid 1800's.
