Oral History

VFP is pleased to offer an online Oral History Instructional Guide and Resource Guide. These were orignally developed for a two day oral history workshop hosted jointly by the Virginia Folklife Program and the African American Heritage Program.

Assuming no prior knowledge, the basic instructional guide serves as a comprehensive and practical tool for beginning to intermediate oral history enthusiasts.

The resource guide, which is organized topically, points to many of the most widely used general resources, as well as a host of more specific sources for specialized projects.

Additionally, we have sample release forms that you can use with oral history interviewees to ensure that your rights as well as the rights of those you interview are protected.
